In our last blog post, we talked about the phenomenal growth of craft beer since 2009. The boom really hasn’t slowed down since then. Just last year, U.S. craft brewers claimed double-digit market share in sales for the first time, clocking in at 18% of total sales. Los Angeles is no stranger to this expansion of craft brew. In 2014, over a dozen breweries sprouted within the L.A. county limits. This year, Alpine Village’s L.A. Local will debut with 10 breweries that have or will open since the beginning of January, 2014. We’ll also have L.A.’s first planned cidery: 101 Cider!

Chances are, you’ve heard of some of these new establishments. If you are like some of us beer geeks at Alpine Village, you have yet to make it out to every tasting room in L.A. A few years ago, there were only a handful within the area and now, to our delight, it’s hard to keep up with the rapid rise! That’s why we hope to give our fellow local beer enthusiasts a chance to sample a variety of the fantastic brews made right here in our home turf.

In alphabetical order, these are the new breweries we’ll have this Saturday, April 18.  TICKETS are available for purchase online.

101 Cider – Westlake Village, CA

101 Cider from Westlake Village is L.A’s first cidery. This is our most recent addition to the festival and we were literally on the phone today with the owner solidifying their participation. We do not yet know what this new cidery is bringing to L.A. Local, but the mystery is half the excitement! Of course, the other half is enjoying a nice cold one from their line-up.

Absolution Brewing Company – Torrance, CA

Absolution is one of our newest neighbors in the Torrance craft brew community. We featured their beers at our 3rd Annual Kraft Bierfest last fall, and we can confirm that their new brewmaster is very, very good and dedicated to perfection.

Alosta Brewing – Covina, CA

While Alosta Brewing Co. was founded in 2010, the microbrewery only recently opened it’s doors in 2014. Brewers Brendan Wehrly and Herb Adams have 30 years of homebrewing experience between them and we are looking forward to sharing some of their recipes with you.

Boomtown Brewery – Los Angeles, CA

To be perfectly honest, we haven’t tried any of the beer from Boomtown and so we are really excited to host their brews at our festival. Alpine Village General Manager, Otto Radtke, read an article about their upcoming opening and immediately penned this brewery for L.A. Local.

Hand Brewed Beer – Chatsworth, CA

If you like a beer with a bit of a kick, Hand Brewed Beer specializes in ales that deliver just that. Their beers “have biting flavors and strong mouth-feel” that would satisfy anyone who likes creativity in brewing.

MacLeod Ale Brewing Co. – Van Nuys, CA

MacLeod is faithful to the British style of brewing with cask ales. In fact, LA Weekly named them The Best New Production Brewery in 2014. MacLeod is making waves for being “the first one in L.A. to focus exclusively on ‘real ales,’ or unfiltered beers served from a cask without any forced carbonation.” Come see for yourself!

Phantom Carriage – Carson, CA

During the brewery’s construction, one of the owners, Martin Svab, often came by to Alpine Restaurant to relax with a couple of our draft beers after a hard day’s work. Staffers were fortunate enough to hear all the developments and the progress of Phantom Carriage and we were all very excited for their opening. They opened recently to great fanfare and our trips to the brewery tell us that Martin & crew are brewing something awesome at their first-in-Carson location.

Santa Monica Brew Works – Santa Monica, CA

When we called up Santa Monica Brew Works, we weren’t sure if they were distributing beer yet, but were delightfully surprised to hear their beers were available. We’ll have their Witbier and Golden Milk Porter on tap this weekend. West SIDE!

SolArc Brewing – Los Angeles, CA

One of our waitresses visited a local establishment with SolArc on tap and recommended their beers to us. Alas! We’ve secured SolArc’s Dunes Belgian Gruit and Night Capsicum Chili Black IPA for the festival.

Three Weavers Brewing Company – Inglewood, CA

Did you know that Alexandra Nowell is L.A. county’s only female brewmaster? The company is also founded by a woman, Lynne Weaver. The rarity of a female-led brewery was why we first heard of Three Weavers, and as we dug a little more, we found that their mission to be a part of revitalizing the Inglewood community to be as noteworthy as their beers.
